A Sunset Chapel Wedding at Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach

This wedding took place at the Sunset Chapel at Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach. The resort sits inside Quivira on a private bluff above the Pacific, and the chapel is part of the property, a short walk from the pools and terraces.

Sunset Chapel is authorized by the Catholic Church and open to couples of all beliefs. Inside, the room is golden and close: a carved altar, chandeliers, religious paintings, wooden pews, and a tile floor. The light comes through the doors and the courtyard beyond.

The chapel

The chapel does not need decoration to feel finished. The altar is the visual anchor, the chandeliers hang low, and the paintings cover the walls. The aisle is short, so the walk down is quick. The room was full when the bride came in.

Before the ceremony

The details were white and green. The boutonniere, the bouquet, and the flowers at the altar all stayed in that palette, which let the gold of the chapel carry the color.

The groom wore a white jacket and a black shirt. He walked down the aisle with his mother. The bride walked down the aisle with her parents. The bridesmaids wore champagne dresses, and the bouquets stayed white and green.

The ceremony

The ceremony was held in the chapel. The officiant stood at the altar, the couple beside him, and the chalices were set on the altar. The chapel was full, and the guests stayed with the couple through the vows.

After the vows

The couple walked back down the aisle together while the guests stood. The group photo was taken by one of the pools, with the resort architecture behind them. The couple stayed at the chapel door for the portraits. The stone and the wooden door gave us a frame without leaving the property.

Planning a Sunset Chapel wedding

The chapel is indoors, which changes the planning. There is no wind, no sand, and no direct sun during the vows. The courtyard gives you outdoor portraits a few steps from the door. The resort handles the reception in its event spaces; confirm the room and the timing with the wedding team.

If you want a Catholic ceremony, confirm the priest and the paperwork with the resort and the church before you set the date. The chapel is authorized by the Catholic Church, and couples of other beliefs can use it too.

The ceremony time is less about the sunset than at a beach venue, because the chapel is indoors. The portraits after the ceremony are the part to protect. The light in the courtyard is warm at the end of the day, and the Pacific bluff gives you a clean horizon.

I have photographed weddings at Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach and across Los Cabos since 2012, and I work with the resort's wedding team.
